What is the 494 skilled employer-sponsored visa?
The 494 skilled sponsored provisional visa replaced Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) subclass 187 visas on 16 November 2019. The 494 visa has 9,000 places is allocated to it for the current financial year. As a provisional visa, the 494 visa does not give instant permanent residency, but the 494 visa holder is eligible to apply for Subclass 191 Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa after 3 years.
Can employers nominate on a 494 visa?
Employers located in any area outside Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney (designated regional areas) many nominate applicants. The vacancy must be from a skilled occupation list of more than 700 occupations. The employer will require approval from the Regional Certifying Body in your location. The position should be full-time and genuine and must be available for five years. The candidate must be paid the salary at the market rate and more than $53,900 per annum plus superannuation.
Meeting the 494 visa requirements
The key requirements include gaining a positive skills assessment, possessing at least three years of full-time relevant work experience, being under 45 years of age and must be competent in English.
How 494 visa result in permanent residency?
It is a 5-year visa allowing access to the permanent residence via the Subclass 191 (Permanent Residence of Skilled Regional) visa once the following specifications are met:
- Having worked in a designated regional area for at least 3 years while holding the subclass 494 visa Australia.
- Must show the minimum income of $73,150 per year for three years. If you have a partner involved in the 494 application, only one of you is required to mention three years of salary per year (also tax returns) at or above $73,150. The partner can be the key applicant for191 visa if they can meet the required specifications.
Kindly note- You are not required to be nominated by an employer to prepare the application for 191 visas. This is a key difference to the RSMS 187 visa.
